1993: first state board examination (1. Staatsexamen) and Master of Arts (Magister Artium) at the University of Heidelberg, Germany

1993-1994: research visitor at the University of Texas at Austin, U.S.A.

1997: Ph.D. in German Linguistics at the University of Heidelberg, Germany

1997–2003: representative of the DAAD and guest professor at the Universidad Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil

2003–2005: research visitor at the University of Freiburg, Germany

2005–2008: representative of the DAAD and guest professor at the Universidade de São Paulo in São Paulo, Brazil

since 2009: permanent lecturer (Akademischer Rat) at the University of Freiburg, Germany
