Language attitudes and linguistic awareness among adolescents from the Stuttgart area

My project is an investigation of language attitudes to the dialect ('Schwäbisch') and the standard ('Hochdeutsch') amongst the adolescents in the Stuttgart area, in Soutwest Germany. The quantitative part of the study consists of two questionnaires concerning different German (stereotypical) variety labels and voice samples from three different locations: Stuttgart, Reutlingen & Berlin. The qualitative part consists of metalinguistic group interviews where the participants discuss attitudes to different (stereotypical) variety labels and their own perception of the linguistic 'reality' of the Stuttgart area and of their everyday lives. The questionnaires are analyse statistically using both R and SPSS, and the interviews are analysed using a Conversation Analysis inspired analysis
